Carolina Mano, a final-year student on the Psychology undergraduate degree, has been awarded a Gulbenkian New Talent Scholarship in the field of Social Sciences. ‘As a student, I feel fulfilled, enthusiastic and deeply grateful, both to the Faculty of Human Sciences for its constant support and to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the opportunity and for investing in the talent, curiosity and potential of young people,’ Carolina shares.
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's initiative annually distinguishes Portuguese higher education students with academic excellence in the areas of basic sciences, humanities, arts and social sciences. The programme aims to stimulate young talent and promote initiation into scientific research.
The programme offers participants an academic and personal enrichment programme, which includes scientific mentoring, support from specialist tutors and scientific retreats, as well as a scholarship of up to €3,500. These moments combine research, cultural and social activities, providing an immersive experience in the Gulbenkian Foundation environment.
When asked what receiving this scholarship means to her, Carolina reveals that "this recognition is more than a research scholarship: for me, it is a great motivation to continue learning and deepening my knowledge in the field of psychology. I believe that science should be at the service of people, that it should transform, inspire and bring people together. And it is with this conviction that I embrace this opportunity: seeking to do science for people."
Congratulations, Carolina!
